The purpose of this group project I think was to look at certain subjects and symbols and learn more about what they mean. Each symbol puts more meaning into the word itself. It also help understand the story, "To Kill A Mockingbird" better. The wheel shows how motifs help create a symbol. Finding motifs make you think about what you need to include in specific thoughts and details.
A mockingbird is a symbol shown in "To Kill A Mockingbird" the mockingbird symbolizes peace, to save Jem and Scout in the story. It gives Ms. Dubose peace when she dies R.I.P. When Miss. Maudie gets a new house that symbolizes peace because shes on her own and no one bothers her that much. Their are several characters that are innocent in this story. Tom Robinson was innocent in the trial but he was guilty as well. Walter Cunningham is innocent in the story because he doesn't take money that he can't pay back to anyone. Boo Radley seems/acts like a bad guy at first but he ends up saving Scout and Jem from Bob Ewell.
The symbol Morphodie represents a person of change. There is a lot of change in "To Kill A Mockingbird. Scout and Jem were innocent at first and didn't understand why things were the way they were. But then figures out what really goes on in life and everything that changes. When they see the trial they see all the evil in people not there innocent self. Boo Radley hasn't came out of his house in 15 years but he finally comes out to help the children, Jem and Scout.
The symbol Tim Johnson represents evil. Tim Johnson is an evil dog that they shot with a gun. Bob Ewell is also a very evil man. He lied in the court trial about his daughter being raped, he actually beat his daughter, and tried to hurt Scout and Jem. In the book "To Kill A Mockingbird" society is also evil. Society is racist and even though Tom Robinson is not guilty, they said he was just because he is black, and the kids sit on the black side during the trail.
The symbol for the flowers represent family. Family to everyone is important but most important in this book. There are 3 types of flowers - Azaleas, Camellias, Geraniums. Azaleas are the flowers that Miss Maudie has in the story. She protects her flowers like she would protect her children. The Camellias are Mrs Dubose's flowers. Her Camellias are very precious to her and she takes very good care of them. The Geraniums are Mayella's. These flowers can take care of themselves she doesn't have to like the others do. Mayella does not take good care of her siblings in the book anyways, so its good that she has flowers that can take care of themselves, otherwise they would be dead. Her siblings get taken care of by others in the book.
